“Iceland is an ever-changing land where the elements combine. Both violent and gentle passions for living souls.”
// V. Sichenze (Leofante)
“Here are just a few reasons why Iceland is the most wonderful country on Earth.”
// Business Insider
“Iceland is a destination for those who desire to quench their thirst for adventure. For people who travel to explore, and return with stories to share. This is evident in this beautiful collection of photos by Elisabetta Rosso. This is her story to share with you.”

Elisabetta Rosso, Italian photographer born in 1976, is an electronic engineer with a School of Fine Art degree. Her passion for the lens becomes a real job thanks to the social reportage in Brazil, which opens “windows both to the soul and to the world” (S. Della Volpe). The expeditions to Namibia, USA and Svalbard Islands bring her to national and international magazines, radios and televisions. In 2013 she is in Iceland as a teacher of the Nikon School Travel and, after over fifteen journeys, while teaching, she keeps on evolving. In 2014 her first video documentary filmed with the drone is in the Dutch tv series Polar Expedition and also on Epic TV and Repubblica.it.
In these pages, she tells through her eyes the unexpected contrasts and the disarming beauty of the four elements in the “Land of ice and fire”. The book includes also some pictures of Bardarbunga volcano’s eruption taken from the respective video photo reportage published by National Geographic, Iceland Review and part of the reading at the Royal Geographical Society of London.

The land of ice and fire: an emotional oxymoron for who can let himself be unarmed by elements.
Just over four years have passed since my first encounter with Iceland but now this land is a part of me. It is a land that can trigger violent passions. It is a hard land that leaves an indelible mark in our feelings.
It is only four years but in over fifteen journeys I have spent a lot of time up there and every moment gives again the correct dimension to the whole.
Iceland is an ever-changing land. It is a land of strong colours and emotions.
It is a living and breathing land, where the elements are unleashed and combine, sometimes gently sometimes violently. The wish to tell it through the language of photography therefore became aneed. The need to share, through the images, a primordial land in which we feel in touch with the most elementary forces of nature. So, this is how I wanted to present it: through the elements.
Fire: that one flowing from underground and that can be felt at every step in Iceland, but also the spectacle of the aurora borealis that originate from the sun’s fire.
The land with its shades of black and a sometimes unexpected green, a soil marked and transformed by the other elements, as in few other places on the planet.
Air is the birds’ kingdom and the stage of those climatic vagaries for which Iceland is rightly famous, and that often make the journeys to Iceland really intense.
And to conclude, water, that perhaps nowhere like here is present in all its forms and where ice, in every season, is the protagonist with all its colours.
Where rivers and waterfalls are a constant presence. It is a journey through emotions where the elements combine and blend and where at the end we are fascinated by a land that, with its unspoiled nature, brings us back to images of a primordial, almost prehistoric world.
This way Iceland always reminds us that we are only guests.

Elisabetta Rosso’s photography style is a poetics of matching.
Not only a refined matching of colour chromatisms, but also in knowing how to take pictures by drawing with the light in the artful workings of glazes that she catches with her photographic realism.
They are actually the rehearsals of a symphonic tonalism that is capable of creating the most exquisite emotions for those who are going to watch.
Elisabetta Rosso’s photographic work shows now more than ever absolutely outstanding hold, progression and novelty .
He that has eyes to see, let him see. So, after this test it will not be by accident if her photography becomes a case.
Therefore, let’s leave everyone free to draw the most appropriate conclusions in reading this photography.
In Elisabetta Rosso you will feel a certain happiness even in portraying a small fortunate island in a stormy sea.
But whatever is the meaning or the feeling of each photographic tale, there is evidence that the ER’s photography reveals a substantial truth: the quest for the photographic work of art, for an ideal order in which culture, professionalism and beauty to take back their place.
